How the Right Headshot Can Transform Your Presence

This is one of my favorite Transformation stories—and a perfect example of why investing in professional, authentic headshots is so important.

When two co-workers arrived for their session, one of them—let’s call him Gilligan—was clearly not thrilled. He was grumbling, skeptical, and checked out emotionally. “It’s fine, it doesn’t matter. I’m sure there’s one that will work,” he muttered.

I explained that my goal wasn’t to stage him, it was to capture him as himself. Slowly, he admitted, “Well… I’m not sure my boss wants me to be myself.” Knowing his boss well, I assured him she absolutely does. A little digging revealed why he felt off: he was wearing a polo instead of his usual style, and his hair wasn’t how he normally wears it. His co-worker chimed in, “Yeah… this isn’t what he usually looks like!”

We paused. I ran around grabbing some styling product, and he disappeared into the bathroom to fix his hair.

Authentic Headshots Make All the Difference

A few minutes later, he returned, hair adjusted, shirt option ready, and glasses in hand. And suddenly—he transformed. His eyes lit up, his body relaxed, and he started to enjoy the process. He looked like himself—authentic, confident, and approachable.

We took a few more shots with the darker shirt, added the glasses, and POOF—he had completely transformed. Gilligan became “Clark Kent”—comfortable in his skin, owning his presence, and radiating confidence. By the end of the session, he wasn’t just someone showing up for a headshot—he was a person projecting professionalism, trustworthiness, and charisma.

Watching someone step fully into themselves in front of the camera is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. That transformation isn’t just fun to witness—it changes how others perceive you and can have a real impact on your business and opportunities.

Is Your Headshot Working For You—or Against You?

Your headshot is more than a photo. It’s a tool for building trust, establishing credibility, and showing the world who you really are. When done intentionally, it transforms your presence and ensures that you’re remembered for the right reasons.

So ask yourself: is your headshot costing you opportunities—or opening doors?
